What I Stand For
Thank you for electing me to Senate District 13! During past legislative sessions I:
- Sponsored SB 319 to improve fire safety response time and save money by consolidating Washoe, Reno & Sparks fire protection districts
- Sponsored SB 315 to reduce traffic congestion by widening Interstate-80 between Vista Blvd and USA Parkway. It also starts the project sooner and ends construction a year earlier than planned.
- Took on Big Pharma to lower the cost of prescription drugs
- Fought to protect renters from bogus fees and price gouging
- Protected a woman’s right to choose
- Expanded worker protections
- Passed and protected the largest K-12 education budget in Nevada history
As a lifelong resident of Northern Nevada, a former State Assemblymen, Business Manager for the Laborers Union Local 169, and now a State Senator I’ll never stop working for Northern Nevada families.

Economic Security for Working Families
Skip believes that a hard day’s work deserves a fair wage. That’s why, in the State Senate, Skip fought to expand worker protections, establish paid family leave for businesses receiving state tax credits, and ensured workers who get laid off are paid in a timely manner.
Investing in Education
In the State Senate, Skip supported and voted to passed the largest education budget in state history, and the biggest increase in the nation! Skip also championed legislation to provide school districts with the money needed to provide educators a raise. This led to a 20% increase in pay for Washoe teachers!
Making Housing More Affordable
Skip’s record is clear – his entire career he has worked to help get people into the middle class. Now more than ever this includes ensuring affordable housing options exist and that the American dream of home ownership is not lost. Skip also worked to help ensure that seniors get the at-home healthcare services they need to remain in their own homes. In the State Senate, Skip fought hard to protect renters from being gouged and from landlords charging bogus fees. He even authored legislation capping rent increases on mobile home park space rent, though this was vetoed by Governor Lombardo.
Ensuring Access to Healthcare for All Nevadans
In the State Senate, Skip took on Big Pharma and supported legislation to lower prescription drug prices. He also fought to protect a woman’s right to choose and voted to pass legislation allowing Nevadans the ability to enact constitutional protections for reproductive health care. Skip believes every Nevadan should have access to life saving health care at a price they can afford.
Improving Government Transparency and Accountability
Skip will never stop fighting to ensure our hard-earned tax dollars are being spent on the things we care most about—improving state services, education, public safety, and helping our seniors and veterans. In the State Senate, Skip fought to ensure “Fake Electors” attempting to subvert the will of the voters could be prosecuted in a court of law. He also authored legislation to ensure constitutional officers disclose more of their donors.
